Monogram

he inspiration for this animation came straight from an interview with Robert Rauschenberg about the steps involved to create his iconic piece Monogram.  His process is sort of like a mirror to the point-and-click style of computer game I used to love to play, where the progression of the story is influenced by the seemingly random combining of objects together. In Rauschenberg's case, he would often invite a crucial element of chance (the goat) into his environment, and with that the art begins.

Lana Kalinda Nichols is a classically trained dancer currently residing in San Francisco with her pet hare. After receiving her BFA in Animation from California College of the Arts, she is now independently studying painting and working towards a greater synthesis of both painting and animation. Incorporating hand painted cel animation or gifs based off her oil paintings, she aims to take traditional animation methods generally reserved for a narrative or commercial approach, to be re-purposed in the minds eye of a painter.
