Despite the unseasonable warmth in much of the US, it's that season we call winter -- and with it comes the clangorous tolling of come-hither capitalist bells, urging you to find whatever warmth you can in the trappings of materialism. Gift guides everywhere seek to distract us from pressing existential questions by posing other ones with squalling urgency: are you "in" enough? Can you help your friends feel trendier, thus entrapping them within an endless and ever-hastening trend cycle? Will you ever be cool before you reach that final cold? Here at Nat. Brut, we're ready to aid you on your quest to spend your disposable income on things that feel real because you can touch and count them. But we'd like to do it a little differently. We've selected hand-crafted, hand-designed and often hand-made items created by artists of color and queer folks, who have done their best to infuse these objects with art and soul. And we're not being paid to do it. We want our gift guide to guide you towards purchasing items by marginalized artists, many of which seek to draw our attention to pressing social issues: gifts that encourage examinations of the deeper questions of our time, rather than gloss, glitz and glitter over them. So take a look at the items below, and think about giving them to someone you love -- and, hopefully, dear reader, that includes yourself.
